Trained Leaders are essential to a quality program! All Pack 889 adults are required to take Youth Protection Training, This is Scouting, Safe Swim Defense, and Safety Afloat. These courses are available at the BSA Online Learning Center and only take a few minutes to complete.

In addition to these courses, Den Leaders and Committee Members are required to complete their necessary online Fast Start and Leader-Specific courses.

At least one adult from each rank is required to have BALOO training, which can be taken at several opportunities throughout the year at the Cockrell Scout, typically on a Saturday. Check the Tall Timbers District calendar for dates and location.

The Boy Scouts of America offers extensive online training. Your first visit to the site will require you to register as a new user. Registration is quick and easy. During the registration process it will ask you for the name of your council; we are the Sam Houston Area Council. It will also ask for your Member ID; if you don't know it or don't have one, you can skip that line.

If you experience trouble logging in after activating your account, users are advised to wait 1 hour after activating their accounts before taking an online course. If you are still having trouble, please exit and re-renter the Online Learning Center site.
